Hello everyone! My name is Dante Janssens, and I am the founder of Perlagente. I take all the pictures featured on the site. Each week, I will share the story behind one of these pictures.
As I have mentioned before in a previous story, I am always searching for compositions that can provide the viewer (and myself) with a deeper meaning. It enables me to explore a big city and find similar places that can connect a person living in the city with its environment.
Depending on the city, this search can lead to very different outcomes. For instance, a city like Zürich, with more open spaces, can be more challenging to connect with, while cities like Barcelona and London, with their closed-off and structured spaces, offer little treasures that can be found almost everywhere.
Vienna is a city that finds a middle ground between these two kinds of cities. While it has open spaces, it also has plenty of alleyways and other similar spaces. This creates a moody feeling that brings out beautiful stories that can be captured in photos.
The picture "I'M TIRED." is an excellent example of this moody environment. It features a man standing in the dark entrance of a little church.
What I love most about this picture are the statues that reinforce the story that can be told about the man. The statues are figuratively holding the building up and keeping it standing. The man holding a stick in his hand is the connection between the building and the man, which makes this picture, in my opinion, so compelling.
You see, the ability to stand and survive relies on having functional legs, but there are occasions when one requires some additional support.
