Hello, everyone! My name is Dante Janssens, and I am the founder of Perlagente. I take all the pictures featured on the site, and each week, I will share the story behind one of them.
As a young kid, I have always been fascinated in street photography. The beauty of capturing something that is completely out of your control is a challenge that makes it fun. It gets you out of your comfortzone, trying to find those compositions that can represent a city in a way that can be respected. Once I got the hang of it, I found that street photography offered a unique and exciting way to showcase the world around me.
I aim to visit as many cities as possible to capture shots that elicit a reaction. These reactions allow viewers to form their own opinions about the pictures. Among all the collections I have amassed, I believe that the Vienna collection is the best example of this.
"BACKHANDED COMPLIMENT." is my favorite of that collection. In Vienna's moody environment, it suprised me to see people that are trying to get more color in the city. Vienna's people represent a much colourful life than the city itself shows and I think we can all learn from that.
To me, it brings it down to a simple lesson . When your environment is dark, bring a lighter.
