Hello everyone! My name is Dante Janssens, and I am the founder of Perlagente. I take all the pictures featured on the site. Each week, I will share the story behind one of these pictures.
All of the pictures have some special meaning to me. Some may tell a story of the trip I took to capture them, while others may hold more sentimental value. "Alone Again," a photograph I took on my first trip to London, is probably the most sentimental of them all.
When I captured this image, my life was on an upward trajectory. I had just begun getting new clients for my photography work, and one of them asked me to travel to London to meet and set things up.
As it was my first proper visit to London (I had previously gone on a school trip, but I hardly remember it), my client took me to some of the city's iconic landmarks. It was on our way to the beautiful London Bridge that I captured this image. At the time, I didn't think much of it and returned home.
Upon returning home, I visited my best friend. At the time, we weren't on great terms, so it was probably the last time I saw her. When I showed her this photograph, she absolutely loved it. She asked me why I didn't sell my pictures, which sparked the idea for Perlagente in my head.
After that, we both focused on our own pursuits. I started focusing on Perlagente and my work, while she focused on her own company. I haven't seen her since then. However, I did have the chance to give her the first print ever produced by Perlagente; the very print of "Alone Again". We parted on good terms, with fond memories. But as life goes on, things change.
"Alone Again" holds a special place in my heart, marking the beginning of my journey with Perlagente and the end of a friendship. Although we haven't spoken since, I will always remember the impact this moment had on my life and career.
